Week 2

Social Networking. The site I belong to is Facebook. A friend of mine in the UK sent me an invite and I thought it was time I checked out one of those sites. The nice thing about Facebook is that it is more about connecting with friends than with strangers. When you sign up if you use gmail, you can import your email contacts and it will search Facebook to see who else you know is already a member. My sister who was working in China for 3 months met a Swedish girl who she went sightseeing with but then Kate lost her email address. So she was surprised to get an out of the blue email from this girl who had also joined facebook. What's not so good about facebook is that everytime someone sends you a message you get an email to tell you have a message and then you have to log on to Facebook to read it. I just prefer them to email me directly.

I seem to get lots of invitations from people to join up different sites but the invitations don't often explain what the sites about and my friends don't explain why they are sending it to me. One of the sites which I got an invite to which I haven't checked out yet which I will do as part of this project is http://www.imvu.com/ which is a site where you can chat with friends using a 3D avatar - that's a 3d cartoon animation. Facebook seems old school in comparison with that.
