The 2008 Culinary Challenge:

One of my goals this year is to try eating different fruits and vegetables which I have never eaten before. To extend me out of my comfort zone and encourage growers to grow different varieties of produce.
Year to date:

1. Maori Potatoes: bought from Otara Markets; tried in a potato salad - yummy and look cute. would eat again expensive $6 per kilo

2. Scallopini: also bought at Otara; look interesting with great colour but taste was bland and not very exciting

3. Kamo kamo: in the marrow family; bought from Downtown farmers market; doesn't break to mush when cooked; similar to a courgette but nicer. cheap $2.00 for one
would eat again

4. Choko: also in the marrow family; bought from Aisan grocers - used recipe from Recipezaar.
wouldn't eat again as pricy $1.00 f0r one and similar to Kamo Kamo

5. Fresh figs: got from organic stall at Downtown market; ripe and ready to eat tasted nice but a bit bland.

6. Fijian Eggplants: long and purple but taste the same as ordinary eggplants
